Typically the vast majority of portfolio accounts are low balance, accounting for only a small percentage of the dollar value of the portfolio. These small balance accounts can represent 80% of the overall portfolio account base but only 10% of the dollars. Clients often apply the same methods to these small accounts that are cost effective on their large accounts, with predictable low to negative netback results. Others clients believe small accounts are too small to merit much collection activity and so apply no effort. Organizations need to consider, “can we afford to ignore assets which have been written off and are simply taking up space?” When it comes to small balance accounts, for a surprising number of creditors and debt buyers, the real answer appears to be “we don‘t think we have a choice.” Because so much of our experience over the years has been with small accounts, CAPITAL is the industry small balance expert. Over the past 20 years we have proven that we can obtain economic returns from small and micro-balance accounts. |

In 1626, Peter Minuit acquired Manhattan from native people in exchange for trade goods, often said to be worth $24 (a figure now thought by scholars to be understated). If the Indians had invested their money at 6%, their $24 would have grown to well over $100 billion. If they had invested at 10% (the 50-year historical U.S. common stock return) today they would have $155,000,000,000,000,000 ... yes that's quadrillions. |
